A school emergency shouldn’t happen often, but it’s something for which you should prepare your child.
Here are suggestions from the American Academy of Pediatrics:
- Create a family emergency plan and discuss it with your child. Make sure it includes a plan for communicating with each other and getting together after an emergency.
- Complete the school’s emergency information form, noting any of your child’s special health needs. Update this information as needed.
- If your child needs medicine, make sure the school has an emergency supply.
- Find out how the school handles emergencies, including how it contacts parents and reunites parents with their children.
